“…The Conseil strongly recognizes the major role that the Centaur plays in the cultural life of our city.”

–Conseil des arts de Montréal

Join over thirty foundations that provide crucial financial support to Centaur Theatre, Quebec’s flagship English-language theatre company.

A Montreal institution for over 40 years, Centaur welcomes over 50,000 audience members annually into our home in Old Montreal, the former location of Canada’s first Stock Exchange. We present over 250 productions on our two stages each season. Known for nurturing Montreal artists, our award-winning past productions include Balconville, Mambo Italiano and Schwartz’s: The Musical, just to name a few.

Centaur Theatre contributes concretely to the region’s economy. Each season, Centaur employs over 200 people, including some of Canada’s leading artists. We therefore contribute to the 90,000 jobs in Montreal’s cultural sector which account for 6% of the city’s GDP. Centaur also spawns the restaurant, hotel and other businesses that have helped to revitalize Old Montreal and to create jobs. Centaur is a major player in making Montreal a rich and diverse cultural centre. This reputation helps to attract qualified employees and businesses to our metropolis.

Centaur makes theatre accessible to all, especially to children and youth. Each year, more than 8,500 children, students and young families enjoy affordable, professional theatre in English through our Theatre of Tomorrow and Saturday Morning Children’s Series programs. Our audiences also include a large number of francophone youth studying English as a second language.

Despite healthy ticket sales, box office revenues account for only 42% of Centaur’s annual expenses. In order to fund all our programs, keep ticket prices affordable and maintain our heritage building, 19% of our budget must be generated through fundraising activities.

Centaur is a registered not-for-profit organization. Your donation is therefore tax-deductible. It will also provide your foundation with many tangible benefits.
