Leave a Legacy
Leave your legacy and become a part of Centaur’s permanent history!
There are many ways to ensure the future of this Montreal institution.

Seat Endowment
Have a seat endowed by inscribing your name or the name of a loved one on a brass plaque permanently affixed on an arm of the theatre seat of your choice.

Other than being a permanent expression of your support for Centaur and the arts, a seat endowment can be a unique Christmas or special occasion gift or a unique way to honour someone special, recognize their business, memorialize a loved one or allow your family name to become part of Centaur history.

You can endow a seat with a tax-deductible donation of $800.

Your donation may be paid in full or in 10 monthly instalments, or in annual instalments over a 4 year period. Payments can be made by credit card, or by cheque made payable to Centaur Foundation for the Performing Arts.

Thank you for your interest in endowing a seat at Centaur!

Planned Gift – a gift that lets you support Centaur in YOUR own way, and in a meaningful way

By giving a planned gift, you will ensure the future of Centaur Theatre for years to come while protecting the inheritance of your dear ones and reducing the taxes payable by your estate. Some planned gifts will also provide you immediate tax benefits or income throughout your life.

The charitable bequest (putting Centaur in your will), the gift of life insurance, RRSPs, RRIFs, the charitable trust and the gift of securities are the most common and easiest way to leave your legacy.

For information or to receive a planned gifts brochure, please contact

Frequently asked questions about planned gifts

Will leaving a gift to charity penalize my heirs?
You will first want to take care of your loved ones. After having made provision for them, you can choose to leave all or part of your remaining assets to one or more charitable organizations. The tax benefits from a charitable bequest considerably lessen the tax burden for your heirs.

You can also make the charitable bequest take effect after the death of your surviving spouse.

As well, you can make a gift by will or revoke an existing charitable bequest by changing your will.

If you wish, you can inform your close relatives of your decision to make a charitable bequest or attach a letter of explanation to your will, thereby passing on your cherished values.

Why must I include a wish to leave a gift in my will?
Without a will, your property and assets will be distributed in accordance with the applicable laws. To be certain that the organization of your choice receives your gift, you must make mention of it in your will. For Centaur, you can also designate the particular programs you wish to support. Must I be older and have a large fortune to make a charitable bequest?
No. Certain gifts, such as life insurance, would be more appropriate the younger the donor is as the premium will be low.

Planned gift is made from your estate, which includes your assets such as your residence, savings, insurance policies, RRSPs, RRIFs, life insurance and other property. Most people do leave an estate upon their death. Though it may be modest, no gift is too small. All gifts will make a difference.
